The study sites were clear-cutting operations managed by the Chuncheon National Forest Station, located at Mountain 1-2, Gyeseong-ri, Hanam-myeon, Hwacheon-gun, Gangwon Province Korea. The predominant tree species was Larix kaempferi (age class Ⅴ), with a site volume of 205.6 m³/ha and an average slope of 29.6°. In the with forest roads, the operations included felling, processing, and yarding. The presence of forest roads facilitated site access, reduced operational steps, and improved productivity. In contrast, in the without forest roads, the operations included skid trail construction, felling, processing, yarding, and forwarding. The analysis showed that, with forest roads, the productivity and costs for felling and processing operations were 2.9 m³/hr and 16,554 KRW/m³, respectively, while for yarding, they were 11.5 m³/hr and 7,245 KRW/m³, resulting in a total cost of 23,799 KRW/m³. Without forest roads, the productivity of skid trail construction was 19.6 m/hr, with a cost of 8,608 KRW/m³ (or 4,069 KRW/m when converted based on volume). The productivity and cost of felling, processing, and yarding operations were the same as those with forest roads. For forwarding over a distance of 700 m, the productivity and cost were 10.7 m³/hr and 14,881 KRW/m³, respectively, resulting in a total operational cost of 47,288 KRW/m³. Therefore, the cost difference attributable to the presence of forest roads was approximately 23,489 KRW/m³.
