This study utilizes the Hyper KANAKO program to compare and analyze the effectiveness of permeable and impermeable erosion control dams in mitigating debris flows, considering the unique topographical characteristics of Korea. The aim is to provide fundamental data for selecting and designing the most effective type of erosion control dam under Korean geographical conditions. We quantitatively analyzed the maximum debris flow depth, deposition thickness, and combined cumulative depth before and after the installation of both types of erosion control dams. Through this analysis, we assessed the effectiveness of each erosion control dam type in reducing sediment and flow rate. Repeated experiments using the Hyper KANAKO program, based on actual Korean topography, confirmed that permeable and impermeable erosion control dams exhibit similar performance under specific height conditions. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to optimizing erosion control dam design and disaster prevention efforts in Korea's specific topographical conditions.
