Nationwide Non-Structural Landslide Mitigation Strategy of the Republic of Korea

원문정보

초록

영어
Landslides are a significant forest disaster in the Republic of Korea, resulting in considerable fatalities and property damage. Since the 1980s, the National Institute of Forest Science (NIFoS) has conducted numerous studies on non-structural methods to mitigate landslides, such as early warning systems and susceptibility mapping, to lessen the impact of these events. Based on the TANK model, an early warning system for landslides was developed to assist in decision-making regarding preparedness and to organize evacuations for local communities. A nationwide landslide susceptibility map with five levels was created using logistic regression, taking into account geological, geographical, and forest characteristics. Furthermore, NIFoS provides crucial data for prioritizing evacuations by debris-flow hazard zonation and evaluating societal vulnerability in the area. To improve public awareness about landslide hazards and current risks in the area, all this information is accessible through the WebGIS platform known as the “Landslide Information System.”
