초록

영어
Directionality refers to whether interpreters work into their mother tongue, the ‘A’ language or the ‘B’ language, their active language. The question of directionality in consecutive and simultaneous interpretation has been discussed and debated not only in the West but also in the East. With the expansion of the European Union, even the proponents of working only into the mother tongue have become more accepting of interpreting into B since relay is needed for minor languages. Though by no means exhaustive, the purpose of this paper is to review the question of directionality in interpretation, examine the arguments for interpreting into and from the mother tongue and issues related to the pedagogy of interpretation into B. A survey was conducted among graduates of the GSIT, HUFS to gauge their opinions regarding directionality.
